New ESIS Technical Committee
Prof Bill Dover, UCL

The European Structural Integrity Society has decided to form a new Technical Committee (TC19) which will be devoted to "Structural Health & Integrity Monitoring". UCL (Bill Dover) and Sheffield University (Keith Worden) have been asked to organise the setting up of this committee which effectively means finding a European Co-Chairman and Secretary and new European members. Progress needs to be reported to the next ESIS Council meeting in Poland in 2002.

The formation of this new TC is recognition of the growing importance of SIM and gives SIMoNET a route for growth into Europe. Current membership cost for ESIS is £20 per annum for which you get four Newsletters a year, access to contacts in the whole field of Structural Integrity, conferences, seminars, workshops, etc. etc. The new Chairman is Professor Keith Miller of Sheffield University and some 30 European countries are represented. ESIS have now established formal links with the American Society for Testing and Materials, (ASTM) and these two organisations will co-sponsor conferences in the US and Europe in alternate years.

It is hoped that SIMoNET will be the core for the new TC and that this will help SIMoNET to expand into Europe. It would be helpful if individual members of SIMoNET could consider joining ESIS.
