SIMoNET November 2001 Newsletter

Thematic Network on Structural Assessment, Monitoring & Control (SAMCO)

This thematic network is being set up at the Joint Research Centre at Ispra, in Italy. Planned objectives include:

To create a centre for knowledge, including a database at Ispra, in the area of monitoring and assessment of structures.

To carry our benchmark tests and distribute the resulting data freely from a database established at JRC.

To devise a recommendation as a basis for a code for monitoring, assessment and control of structures.

To define the necessary steps for an improved handling of earthquake loads and the related structural response.

To provide information about available experimental testing facilities.

To define needs for further research and development.

To develop and disseminate a whole life approach to structural engineering.
