The first European Workshop on structural health monitoring (SHM) is planned to be held in Paris in July 2002. The purpose of the Workshop is to assess current state-of-the-art technologies in the field and to discuss and identify key and emerging issues in research and development that are important for SHM. A special volume of the proceedings will be published following the event. Major topics for the workshop include:

• Sensor and actuator development (e.g. optical fibres, nano-sensors)
• Damage identification and properties (including characterisation and assessment)
• Intelligent processing of materials and structures
• System integration (e.g. sensor networking, signal processing)
• Applications (particularly in the fields of aeronautics, aerospace and civil engineering)

The deadline for abstracts is Nov 15th, with full papers due by April 1st. Abstracts should be sent to: SHM2002.abstract@onera.fr

The workshop is being organised by the Department for Structure and Damage Mechanics of ONERA (French National Aerospace Research Establishment), Ecole Normale Supérieure of Cachan, Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées.
