ASRANET International Seminar - July 2002
Asranet, a sister network to Simonet held an international seminar on structural reliability and advanced structural assessment in Glasgow in early July. There were almost 50 papers presented including four keynote papers by experts from Japan, Germany, USA and Australia. Two workshops on educating engineers in safety, risk and reliability, and on SRA & ASA - tools for design or tools for re-assessment were also held as part of the seminar. Best practice Guidance is being prepared for the use of risk and reliability methods in structural integrity management and a paper on the current status and scope of this was presented by Navil Shetty (Atkins ,UK) and John Sharp (Cranfield University). It is planned to publish this later this year.
Papers of particular interest to structural monitoring included:
- "Reliability deterioration and lifetime maintenance cost optimisation" by D.Frangopol, University of Colorado, USA
- "A demonstration of on-line monitoring's applicability to the assurance of fixed jacket structures' reliability by considering its effect on average repair rate" by D.Sanderson, A.Price, A.Nelson, EQE International, and S.Killbourn, Fugro Structural Monitoring, UK
- "Effects of stress redistribution due to member failure on structural reliability of offshore steel jackets" by D.Sanderson, A.Nelson, S.Thurlbeck, EQE International, and A.Stacey, HSE
- "Probabilistic remnant life assessment of corroding pipelines within a risk based framework", by A.Muhammed and J.B. Speck, TWI
- "An internet based system for seismic performance evaluation of existing buildings", by S.Ochi, T.Takada, J.Kanda, Univerity of Tokyo and S.Sakamato, Taisei Corporation.
- "System reliability issues of offshore structures considering fatigue failure and updating based on inspection" by E.Ayala-Uraga, T.Moan, NTNU Trondheim, Norway
- "The application of RSM in the system resistance of composite bridge based on non-linear analysis", by T.Onoufriou, G.Li, University of Surrey, V.Hogg, Highways Agency
- "Evaluation of reliability updating techniques for fatigue crack growth using experimental data", by M.Baker, I Stanley, University of Aberdeen
- "Reliability analysis of ship structures fatigue and ultimate strength", by F.Jancart, F.Besnier, Principia Marine, France
Papers from the seminar are available on a CD-ROM.
